Citizen Bio
Laura Hudson was born and raised on Whidbey Island, north of Seattle in the Pacific Northwest. Her mother, Georgia Gerber, is a professional sculptor and her father operates a bronze art foundry which is attached to the house. Her bedroom window looked out into the foundry, and she fell asleep many nights listening to the roar of the kiln. As an only child in a rural area, she spent her youth riding horses and wandering the surrounding fields and woods, making friends with animals and inanimate objects. At 16 she wanted to travel and experience life in an urban setting, and spent a year as an exchange student in Madrid, Spain. While there she explored the many galleries and major museums, where she discovered her love of figurative painting. She later earned a BFA from Western Washington University and shortly after an MFA from Maryland Institute College of Art, Mt. Royal Program. Laura now lives as an artist in residence at Gallery Four in Baltimore, and works as a cocktail server at Woodberry Kitchen.
